US Goverment computers breached nearly 5,500 times in 2008

I always tell executives that no matter how much they spend on IT security (firewalls, anti-virus, filtering systems, etc.), they cannot prevent computer breaches.  As an example, I tell them that the DoD and other government agencies likely spend more on IT security than they do and are breached quite often.  Below are some recent statistics around this.

The Homeland Security Department, meanwhile, says there were 5,499 known breaches of U.S. government computers in 2008, up from 3,928 the previous year, and just 2,172 in 2006.

Corporations can mitigate this risk by proactively using computer forensics to identify and mitigate shortcomings in their security infrastructure.  Take a look at our threatFORENSICS serivce or give us a call to learn more.
