Data breaches increase 47% in 2008

The Identify Theft Resource Center released their final report of reported security breaches in 2008.  The total number rose to 656 breaches (impacting 35,691,255 records), a 47% increase over 2007.  The breaches represent those that companies are required to report due to legislation and regulations and the actual number of breaches is vastly higher.

Internal threats
