The verb cull means to remove rejected members.
In e-discovery, culling refers to the process where documents are removed from the list of those to be produced or reviewed during the discovery process. Documents can be removed for a variety of reasons, the two most common are client-attorney privilege or documents which are not relevant to the discovery parameters agreed upon.
To be effective in the culling process, the method by which you decided to remove the documents should be transparent so the opposing party and judge feel comfortable that the document removed should not be part of the discovered documents.
